Best Time to Move in Georgia (By Season)
When you move in Georgia significantly affects cost, crew availability, and how difficult the physical move is. Here's an honest breakdown of each season — including the times most people don't consider.
Georgia Moving Seasons
The best-kept secret in Georgia moving. Demand is at its lowest, rates are typically 15–25% below summer pricing, and scheduling is easy. Georgia winters are mild — temperatures rarely drop below freezing for more than a day or two in Atlanta. The only risk: the occasional ice storm that can delay moves. If you have flexibility, January–February is the best time to move in Georgia.
Spring is a good time to move — weather is mild, school is still in session (fewer family moves), and rates are still below summer peak. April is when demand starts increasing, so book earlier than you would in winter. Pollen season (March–April) is heavy in Georgia — keep that in mind for moves involving open truck doors for extended periods.
Georgia's moving peak — school's out, real estate transactions are highest, and demand for movers is at maximum. Rates are highest of the year, availability is tightest (book 6–8 weeks out), and Georgia's summer heat makes the physical work harder. If you must move in summer, schedule early morning starts and expect to pay peak rates.
The best overall time to move in Georgia. Summer heat breaks, rates come down from peak, and scheduling is easier as demand drops. Fall foliage makes it pleasant, the weather is cooperative, and moving companies have availability. September–October is our personal recommendation for anyone with flexibility in their timing.
Good rates and easy scheduling in November. December gets complicated: the holiday period creates scheduling conflicts, businesses are closing out year-end, and family obligations compete with move logistics. If you're moving in December, book early and avoid the week before Christmas. First two weeks of November are excellent.
Day of Week Matters Too
Weekends cost more than weekdays — period. Saturday is the highest-demand moving day. If you can take a Wednesday or Thursday off work, you'll typically save 10–20% vs. a Saturday move and get better scheduling flexibility. Avoid end-of-month weekends — that's when leases turn over and moving companies are at maximum demand.
